Promois®
"Promois" is a trademark for raw material based on protein which is widely incorporated in cosmetics and toiletries. Especially in hair care products, "Promois" is often expressed in another way such as silk protein incorporated, with nutritive protein and so on. Besides here in Japan, "Promois" is well known among hair beauticians as PPT (polypeptide) used in hair-coloring / perming process.
Promois®
"Promois" is our trade name for polypeptide and its derivatives obtained through hydrolysis of various proteins. Being originated from natural resources, "Promois" is ecological human-friendly raw material . "Promois" is hydrolyzed protein which has proper molecular weight in cosmetic use. It can bring out some effective results to skin or hair as moisturizing, protecting and repairing. Which type of origin and chemical-modification are used can differ its nature and characteristics.

Origin of Proteins
The composition of amino acid can make different characteristics of each "Promois". Following part gives you more information about features related to amino gram.
Silk
Silk protein is formed by a piece of fiber consists of fibroin, which is fibrous protein, and amorphous protein of sericin. This fibroin part of Silk is used in Promois. Fibroin has a unique amino acid composition . It is rich in glycine and alanine, which have small molecular weight and simple chemical structure, comprises 80% of the total.
The composition is known to form a sheet structure. Consequently the comfortable touch associated with Silk can be generated.
Vegetable
Wheat protein: Wheat protein is rich in acidic amino acid as with soy protein and also has a slight amount of cystine. It brings light texture as compared to soy protein.
Rice protein: Rice protein has much hydrophobic amino acid and it sticks to even less damaged hair. Also, it has an effect on moisturizing.
Sesame protein: Sesame protein has much acidic amino acid and is superior in moisturizing. It gives soft texture to hair.
Keratin
Keratin is one of structural protein composing our stratum corneum, hair, and nail. Specially it comprises 80% of human’s hair. In terms of its amino acid composition, it has cystine which cannot be seen in any other kinds of protein. Furthermore, in association with disulfide bond, it has very unique molecular structure that peptide is well cross-linked. It gives strength and makes hair more elastic.
Collagen
Collagen is
major component of protein which comprises skin. It plays a significant role both to build up and to maintain our body. Specially ollagen comprises approximately 1/3 of protein presented in mammal. It has a distinguishing characteristic of that it has ydroxyproline. Collagen is the only one protein which contains hydroxyproline. This amino acid composition arises high moisturizing effect to both skin and hair.
Marine Collagen
Marine collagen is good alternative to traditional collagen originated from animal such as cattle and swine. Since Marine collagen has similar amino acid composition to it, it brings out moisturizing effect and imparts softness to hair and skin as used in personal care products as well as animal collagen.
Milk
Milk is foundational food for mammal to nurture children and it contains protein that consists of essential amino acid at high rates. Its characteristic as polypeptide is that it has balanced amino acid composition. This composition generates moist feeling. dditionally it brings chelate effect as Milk contains acidic amino acid and phosphoric ester.
Pearl
Conchiolin
is one of protein which is contained in shellfishery (mollusk). Inside of pearl formed by pearl oyster has the protein and it plays a role in protection of Pearl and shell. Besides, conchiolin significantly links to luster of Pearl oyster. It is similar in amino acid composition to that of fibroin.
Derivatives
"Promois" has standard type to which hydrolysis is given to each type of protein.
Furthermore, there are various derivatives with each chemical modification.
Quaternized Type
By quaternizing the amino terminal of polypeptide, it makes polypeptide more substantial to specially damaged part of hair and works as antistatic material. It is suitable for the application of hair conditioner and treatment.
Acylated Type
It is polypeptide, to which fatty acid is condensed, obtained by hydrolysis of various protein. It chiefly can be used for detergent such as shampoo. In addition, there are oil soluble type of polypeptide, to which long alkyl chained fatty acid is condensed, functions as solubilizer.
Esterified Type
By esterifying the carboxyl terminal of polypeptide, it makes polypeptide alcohol-soluble. There are 2 types; collagen-derived type and silk-derived type.
Siliconized Type
By siliconizing
the amino terminal of polypeptide, this type brings repairing effect comes from polypeptide and smoothness from silicone composition. It is characterized in that it forms silicone film over skin and hair as a result of heat processing such as hair dryer. Not only it protects them but it also improves the texture and shuts moisture into skin and hair.
